When it comes to training or diet, accountability is one of the biggest determining factors. There are many reasons why accountability works, but mostly it’s about not wanting to let someone else down.
Firstly, when you are paying someone, that money spent makes it more likely that you will do what you supposed to do. For example if someone gives you a diet program for free you might not stick to it, but if you are paying $200 a month for a custom diet program you are more likely to stick to it. If not, it feels like you are throwing away money.
Secondly, having to have check ins with your coach force that accountability. Did you stick to the diet all week? If you don’t have a coach, you can tell all the little lies to yourself about why you didn’t, and you might actually believe them. If you have to report to a coach, well a good one at least, they will call you out on those excuses as well as help you figure out ways to prevent those mistakes from happening again in the future.
I once jokingly said I would start a diet program where you pay me $500 at the beginning of the month. If you loose 2 pounds in the month, I would give you the money back. Then repeat until desired weight is reached. While this is obviously a tongue in cheek example, it would work. Most people know what they need to do better to loose weight, it’s the accountability that is missing. Me getting to keep $500 of your hard earned money for doing nothing would motivate you to make better decisions.
All joking aside, if you need help with nutrition for a long term sustainable habits and results, I love working with people who are willing to put the work in.
