This is going to be a great week. This Wednesday is a special day for me. It is my 46th birthday, my 14th year wedding anniversary, and the 12th year of owning CrossFit Bytown. Yes they are all on the same date. This is because I am REALLY bad at remembering dates.
Personally I have decided to challenge myself and step outside my comfort zone. I have entered a bodybuilding show next month. The last one I did I was in my early 20s and it wasn’t fun. I had no idea what I was doing. I suffered through the diet and training, did it a very unhealthy way. I was so miserable to promised my wife I would never do it again.
Well jump forward to my mid 40s and I have been maintaining a very lean condition with absolutely no suffering. So I decided to try to put some finishing touches and see what I can do with a little over a month to prepare. I am not doing anything drastic, no crazy diet, no excessive cardio, just some smart decisions.
The competition will be at Algonquin College on October 19th. Tickets available here for anyone who wants to come cheer me on. If you have never been to a bodybuilding show, only the night show is exciting, the morning is more technical.
I enjoy doing things like this as it allows me to better understand my body as well as better understand the difference of training strictly for aesthetics instead of my traditional performance. I am still following my StrongFit programming, but I have just added some bodybuilding movements to bring up some body parts.
This Wednesday I will also be hosting a fund raiser for the organization I am a part of YouTurn. We will be gathering some of the best chefs in Ottawa to sample their food and meet other movers and shakers in the community. There are still tickets available for anyone interested. This year it will be at the Ottawa Art Gallery, an absolutely beautiful location.
