It looks like the Preston street overpass is finally on roll for being updated. This means for the next couple of weeks there will be some traffic issues and delays around the gym. Preston street will be closed starting this Wednesday July 17th. It looks like it will be closed until August 6.
Replacing the entire bridge in only 3 weeks is pretty impressive. The new overpass will have brand new LED lighting to improve the visibility under the bridge and light up the murals. The new Little Italy neon signs will also be finally put back up.
I am not sure what the city plans on for the detour, nothing was mentioned. I think anyone not taking public transportation will have to make some detours. Depending on how bad traffic gets backed up, it might be best to use GPS to figure the best route on your car / bike to the gym.
As I experiment with my routes into the gym from the south, I will keep people posted. I would factor a little bit more time into your commute.
